With all due respect to the Four Tops (or Holland-Dozier-Holland for that matter) they were full of shit. Perhaps they had a better peer group, but whenever I so much as deign to stick my head up for a bit of attention, I get smacked down Whack-a-mole style.
No, that's not entirely true either, I mostly get ignored. Why do I keep seeking out people who don't give a shit about me? Imago indeed. Fuck!
